For an instant wardrobe update this spring/summer 2012, all you need is a chunky bangle.
-vogue.com
Seen decorating wrists everywhere from Fendi andBalenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and Balmain, they range from the subtlest gold metal cuff to some of spring’s most attention-grabbing jewels.
At Hermès, they came stacked in tan leather of varying sizes, while Donna Karan chose single bold wooden designs to weigh down arms. Chanel went for gold, showing cuffs studded with gems, while Giambattista Valli’s snaked up models’ arms in swirls of metal.

ELEANOR AMOROSO F/W12
In the age of fast fashion, the demand for one-of-a-kind showpiece garments is as precious as ever. One of the most wearable options for this kind of investment is knitwear. Joining the likes of Mark Fast, Craig Lawrence, and Sandra Backlund, Eleanor Amoroso is the latest novelty knitwear designer pushing boundaries when it comes to materials and technique. Steadily climbing up the ranks in the incubator that is London, Amoroso is having her turn, and in this go around, macramé knitting takes the spotlight.
Amoroso first decided to fashion dresses with the knotting technique while creating her graduate collection at the University of Westminster, and has since come to develop this signature style through experiments with a number of creative processes. Citing Japanese rope bondage and tribal jewelry as references in seasons past, Amoroso creates each one of her pieces from scratch, creating body and texture through permutations of the thousands of knots she ties by hand.
Having developed increasingly sculptural pieces, for F/W 2012-13, she adds copper hardware and feathers to the intricate knotting, while the loose fringing gets a boost from an ombré treatment.

London based designer Eleanor Amoroso has once again captivated us here at MPDClick with her dramatic handcrafted macramé collection. Attracting attention from a handful of magazines last season with her graduate collection, one piece even featured on the cover of Volt Magazine on model Alice Dellal, just months after graduating. For spring/summer 12 we see the same dramatic floor length silhouettes but with even more detail placed upon the structure of each piece. Black is once again the favoured colour with cream introduced, lifting the collection for summer. Painted wooden flower petals are noted this season, further emphasising the focus on craft while adding a new dimension through the contrast in texture. All handmade, we cite Eleanor Amoroso as a pioneering figure within a rising breed of true modern artisans. Read full article here

Eleanor Amoroso will be exhibiting in New Fashion: Interventions in Materials and Techniques at the Fashion Space Gallery in February
New Fashion: Interventions in Materials and Techniques is the first of three exhibitions at the Fashion Space Gallery devoted to emerging talent across the disciplines of fashion design, illustration and photography. The series will showcase makers who, though not yet widely known, are some of the most outstanding of their generation – whose work takes it’s place among the best of contemporary practice, while also defining future directions, agendas and tastes around fashion creation.
By presenting the work of eight emerging fashion labels, this exhibition explores a number of ways in which young designers are pushing boundaries in the creation of contemporary womenswear. All of those featured have established their businesses within the past three years, and yet each possesses a clear sense of their individual creative process and professional identity. Their strong visions are tangible in the intensive materiality, high level of craftsmanship, powerful visual impact and originality of the work that they produce. http://www.fashionspacegallery.com/exhibition/current/

Eleanor Amoroso has a dark and unique style that was first noticed just a little less than a year ago. After graduating from University of Westminister, the artist gained notoriety for her experiments with knitwear, sculptural shapes and her view of the human body. After a break through collection based on handcrafted garments and accessories, she now comes with a more dramatic mood.
The Spring-Summer 2012 Collection shows a point of view. The human body is seen not only as an object, but also as a statement to be made. It’s wrapped around, played with in a way that is powerful without being heavy. It’s a new silhouette.
She was initially inspired by Japanese rope bondage, ancient macramé wall hangings and tribal jewelry. She has worked with Hungarian footwear designer Julia Kaldy to create the accessories. The designer once explained that her process of creation is developed throughout different pieces that once in the same picture, make a collection. All her garments are unique separately, and when mixed together, they create different images, always following a concept and an idea.
The lightness of the fabrics brings a flow that contrasted with the detailed handwork makes a perfect combination of innovation and style. The colors are based on black and white contrasts adding a new dimension to her line of clothing. It makes us wonder about what is coming next.

”Eleanor Amoroso is an accomplished London based designer who launched her label last season following her very successful graduate collection.
She studying womenswear University of Westminster where she explored the complex techniques of macramé, which she has applied in a very forward thinking way.
The difficult-to-master artisan techniques of japanese rope bondage also influenced her aesthetic, but gladly interpreted in a less traditional manner, with only small elements of the artform being obviously present, the rest being expertly reinvented and reworked into something altogether less subversive and much more contemporary.
Her work is a heady mix of intense craftsmanship, elegance and a very subtle toughness. The craft element is predominant since each and every piece is hand made, which is a unique labour of love for this new designer. The preciousness and care with which she treats each piece is clear as every knot, every loop and every fold is perfectly placed and meticulously calculated. Eleanor definitely represents the caliber of talent coming out of London”

Eleanor Amoroso’s SS12 collection will be exhibited at Pitti Immagine showrooms in Milan 24-26 september.
Shinsuke Mituoko’s textural interplay led neatly onto Eleanor Amoroso, the final designer to show on the Blow Presents catwalk. Still just a year out of university, and showing only her second collection since graduating (from Westminster last year), the super knitter extraordinaire continued to refine and hone her designs. Perhaps taking herself out of her comfort zone, Amorso manipulated and twisted knitted ropes in incredibly complex designs, leaving out pieces to reveal chunks of the body, or cinching them in at the waist with rope belts attached with polished gold links. Complicated front pieces revealed backless designs that were held in place only by simple ties and knotted tapes. Floor sweeping tassels hung from the waist, contrast dip-dye techniques served only to exacerbate the elongated lengths that were in sharp contrast to the relief work that framed the body.
Later in the collection, hexagonal honeycomb cut-outs were held in place by knotting and knitting, By focusing on a tightly edited palette – black and faded cream specifically – Amoroso allowed the craftsmanship to shine through – unsurprising considered that each piece is made by hand, a true labour of love. Despite the undeniable complexity of these knitted sculptures (and sculptures they were, ‘clothing’ cannot adequately described their contoured forms) they never appeared overtly conceptual, grounded in traditional crafts, there was a calm sense of equilibrium that lends itself to a purity of design. The looks were accessoried with chunky, stacked bangles and precarious wooden flatforms with bound leather and fabric straps.

Eleanor Amoroso – AW 11/12
If, like me, you have a penchant for fringing and the exaggerated movements it provides, then Eleanor Amoroso’s collection for Autumn Winter 11 is one to uncover. Her first collection since graduating, it features dark macramé dresses intricately knotted into a variety of shapes. Sweeping fringing from neck to ankle accentuates the wearer’s powerful strides in a dramatic statement of modern elegance – flowing silhouettes hardened by heavy metal clasps and metal piping.
Amoroso’s designs are each made by hand. There is a distinct power in her design execution and commitment to vision. Amoroso’s creations exude an authentic sensuality and feminine dominance.
Julia O Doherty
“For Fall 2011, Eleanor Amoroso has taken her trademark knotting to new levels of body-contouring complexity. Metal piping and clasps modernize the tribal feel exuded by the pieces, which hug the body with an elegant edginess.
What is perhaps to be most loved about this collection is that it seems to have been carefully and painstakingly developed; there is no sudden veering-off into an unrelated direction for this designer. And, much like the intensive process of developing macramé, the collection falls neatly into place in her repertoire, and creates a beautiful overall aesthetic…”

” Inspired by the dramatic styles of high fashion labels Rodarte and Alexander Wang, Westminster graduate Eleanor Amoroso creates dark, beautiful hand-crafted, knitted garments and accessories.
Instantly attracting the editorial attention of V and Vogue, Eleanor’s debut collection was picked up by Blow PR following her graduate show. Assisting cult young designers Gemma Slack and Charlie le Mindu whist studying fashion design, the London-based designer first studied illustration and painting, inspired by her tutor, artist Richard Gray. Experimenting with a range of creative processes Eleanor went on to discover a passion for hand crafting materials, more specifically the techniques of macramé, describing her aesthetic as “knitwear but not so much knitted”.
Working in her local pub by day and working tirelessly to realise her dream of making her self-titled label a success by night, Eleanor envisions contemporary style icons Alice Dellal and Daisy Lowe as the future faces of her collection.
In the video here i-D Online catches up with the young designer at the Blow showrooms to find out more about her intricate technique.’

” Eleanor Amoroso has a trademark quirky, decorated and dark style. The experimental super knitter who after graduating from University of Westminister in 2010 has become a new favorite at Blow PR. She is deservedly making great strides forward with her first groundbreaking collection based on handcrafted garments and accessories made from long lengths of fringing. “
